Carefully selected durable materials, minutely worked details and an everyday functionality.
Sandqvist is one of those brands that truly found the thing they are good at and continue to pursue this. They design backpacks that are functional and uncomplicated yet beautiful, with clear Swedish heritage. Backpacks that are made for what they are supposed to be made for: hiking in the woods, strolling through the city, climbing a mountain.
Sandqvist was founded in Stockholm in 2004 by Anton Sandqvist. When he was younger he always felt the need to create things and he loved working with his hands. From building furniture to sewing canvas for his boat. One day he decided to make a bag because he needed one himself. He started working on an old industrial sewing machine and in only 30 hours the first rough Sandqvist backpack saw the light of day.
Soon his brother Daniel and their childhood friend Sebastian also joined the company.
Sandqvist is clearly inspired by the Nordic landscape with its forests, rivers and vast unpopulated areas. It feels as if the brand wants to bring the peace and tranquillity they found in the Swedish mountains to us, to people living like urban nomads. When it comes to bag design Sandqvist likes to keep it simple and pure with designs that are timeless, durable and without unnecessary details. They make use of natural fabrics such as heavy 180z cotton canvas and vegetable tanned leather.

This philosophy is discernible throughout the whole production process. Their contribution to a better world is to make long lasting products made of good materials and under good working conditions. All the bags are produced in three small factories in India, owned by three different families.
Although a Sandqvist bag suits the city life perfectly - we can bring the bag to work easily – we like the fact that the bag reminds us to go explore everything the nature has to offer, once in a while.
