From Ash With Love

This month we present the ”Fauteuil”, handmade by Ruben van der Scheer. The design of the chair came from playing with flowing lines and the desire to make a comfortable chair that also provides security and shelter.
The chair is handmade out of ash wood, the finish is a mixture of boiled linseed oil and white pigment. This is to preserve the white color of the wood.

Ruben works from his workplace in Amsterdam. He combines craftsmanship with modern techniques. He often uses solid wood that grows in our environment, such as ash, elm and oak.

The coating was done by Maartje van den Noort. The chair is exclusively on sale this month at Restored, including (custom) fabrics, €2100, -

I want to ride my Bamboo bike

This month we present the BlackStar Bamboo Bike. Simply because we love the design and the story behind it.

Three entrepreneurs from Amsterdam had the desire to produce a bamboo bicycle that would be more than just a novel gimmick. The bamboo frame is manufactured in Ghana. The BlackStar combines all the ingredients of the safe and stylish urban bicycle transportation to which we are accustomed, with socially and ecologically sustainable and affordable mobility.

BlackStar brand is not only a business concept, it is a statement; give Africa the chance to process its own raw materials into consumer goods. By doing so, the African labour force and African entrepreneurs are not only pulled up the supply chain where profits are bigger, in addition, formal employment, with all its benefits, is created.

This is a bicycle which in terms of price (849 euros), design and quality, can compete with other urban bicycles. Until October the bike can be bought in the pop-up store at the Zeedijk in Amsterdam. At  a later stage, the bike may be for sale at Restored.

Inside the box

For the window of this month, designer Renske Versluijs created a poetic world from an old hanging sewing box, an unfolded record case and several small boxes, all painted white.

The label ‘renskeversluijs’ is characterized by its elementary designs and distinct use of color. During the design process Renske experiments with the structure of the leather and connections with other materials, such as knitted wool. The collections consist of bags, etuis, business card sleeves, iPhone sleeves, bags and other handy accessories.
