It is a true pleasure to see the aesthetics of designer Mae Engelgeer evolve with every new collection.
2015 is marked by MOD, a collection of textiles in which subtlety and finesse reign supreme. Restored presents tea towels, soft plaids and a lavish shawl made from a combination of mohair, merino wool and cotton.
In earlier collections (WOWW, ISH. Nerv and Flock) geometric patterns appeared more playful together with a signature bright coloured line that popped up almost every time.
This year a stretched out grid structure is omnipresent in place of the pop coloured line. Colourschemes veer towards pastels interlaced with a score of white dashes. Gradients are rendered in indigo and grey with a hint of bordeaux. Sometimes, Mae even ends up working out black and white compositions.
Our personal favorite are the indigo and creme colours blending into each other in the woolen plaids. Timeless.
As if creating a new collection wasn’t enough, Mae launched the MOD and MODE furniture fabrics collection in her first ever solo exhibition during Salon del Mobile in Milan.
The presentation of Textile Hues consisted of a whole range of products (from ceramics to wall carpets) mounted on steel frames hanging from the ceiling and couldn’t have been more spot on. See styleshots of the MODE furniture fabrics below.
